Rice and Gween Beans

I think I've said it before but Shaw is one of those toddlers that doesn't play well by himself. Actually, he all out refuses. As you can imagine days get long with keeping him entertained plus feeding a newborn (who is still sick) every three hours and keeping him happy as well. So, this morning I decided to try a little OT activity out and it worked great! I put rice and dried beans in a bowl, put it on the kitchen floor, and told him to "have at it". He immediately called it "rice and gween beans" even though I believe they were great northerns :). I then decided to put his magnetic letters in the mix and he thought that was great. He would find them and go stick them on the fridge! He ended up making a huge mess but what better way to work on his fine motor skills than to pick up beans off the floor? It ended up entertaining him for about 45 minutes and he had a blast! I think we will do a little food coloring next time with what I kept to make it a little more colorful!
