10 Months

This past Saturday, June 2, our sweet boy turned 10 months. I know I literally say this every post but I just CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I feel like he should still be 6 weeks old. Don't get me wrong, I do not miss the sleepless nights of having a new born but it goes by so fast I almost can't even remember those nights. A week or two into his 9th month I started thinking to myself..."I will be able to write for the 10 month blog post that this has been one of the easiest and most fun months". That was until we got double ear infections, fever for only the second time in his short life, and almost completely stopped eating food for two weeks. Oh, the joys of raising a child and never knowing what it next. With all sickness aside, this past month was great. It held a lot of firsts, and of course went by WAY too fast! Here are a few things about our 10 month old and some insight on what his 9th month was all about:
  • On his birthday he weighed 16 lb. 4 oz. He also weighed this at the Dr. for his sick visit. He is also 27 inches long. So, we grew about an inch in less than a month but only gained a few ounces. I wasn't surprised about the weight gain or lack there of due to him not wanting to eat as much. The Dr. didn't seem alarmed as most babies slow down on weight around this time. For us, this is not good since he was so little to begin with. We are going to try some new things this month to see if it helps any.
  • He is wearing mainly 6-9 month clothing, some 9-12, 9, and 12 month. His summer wardrobe consists of one pieces and shortalls so even the 12 month ones do not look silly if they are a tad big big.
  • Still in size 3 diapers even though I believe we could go to 4s with no issues.
  • He has finally outgrown all his size 1 shoes and even a couple pairs of size 2s. He can now wear some size 3s, like his Toms.
  • A week or so after he turned 9 months, he started clapping consistently.
  • He is still waving now and then but he doesn't do it every time.
  • New words this past month: "yay". He mainly says this while clapping. TOO cute! He has also been calling Josh "yaya". He can say "dada" because he has said it a couple of times. It's a mystery to me and the SLPs I work with how he can consistently use a harder sound and won't just say "dada" which is usually the easiest for babies to say?!
  • I know it sounds silly but Josh and I always ask him questions. For example: "Are you being a good baby?", "why are you crying?". Well, there have been a few times where we have asked him questions and he has plain as day answered with "yeah". Josh the other day asked him, "are you being a turd bucket (hah!)?". His answer, "yeah". We died laughing!
  • The boy talks nonstop. If he is awake he is going to be making noise.
  • Lots of new mouth noises and facial expressions this month. He loves to click his tongue on the top of his mouth and he still loves smacking his lips and doing the motor.
  • Since he hasn't been eating as well, we think it might have to do with the pureed foods. He loves to feed himself the little organic puffs and snacks. So, this week we will be experimenting with more big boy foods like mac-n-cheese and some foods he can feed himself. We will also being trying meat for the first time this week.
  • Doing very well with the sippy cup.
  • Still nursing anywhere from 4-5 times a day. The last few weeks he has wanted nothing to do with nursing right before bed. He is just TOO busy! So he has been getting a formula bottle those nights. I think we will also be increasing his formula intake to see if it helps with the weight. Right now he is still getting about 4-8 oz a day of formula. Contemplating on cutting back on nursing but not sure if I am ready.
  • Sleep has been great this month besides the couple of days he ran a fever. Normally goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 and wake up between 6:30 and 7:30.
  • We finally have a crawler!! He decided to crawl at 9 months 2 weeks. He is getting more sufficient and faster. Right now I would say it is between a 4 point crawl and army crawl. He gets up on his knees but most of the time leave his weight on his forearms. This weekend we have noticed carpet burn on his knees. We might have to invest in some baby knee pads!
  • Doing pretty good with pulling up. Not consistent but can do it.
  • I removed the front bumper from his crib this week. In attempts to pull up he was somehow getting it untied and it was not staying secure.
  • This past month he has learned to give kisses. It is the sweetest thing ever! I'll ask him "can you give me a kiss" and he leans in, open mouth, and lays one right on lips! Lately, he has been giving them right when he wakes up and this weekend has even started giving them to the dogs! haha such a sweet boy
  • His hair seems to be getting lighter. The new hair coming in is bright blonde. Not sure if our strawberry blonde is about to turn into a cotton top!
  • No new teeth during the 9th month. Just the two bottom we got during the 8th
  • He is doing great with standing and loves the little standup activity table we have for him.
  • His little personality is really coming out. His daddy and I feel like he is going to be a funny kid with all the giggling and noise making he does.
  • He is obsessed with all things electronic these days. He will cry if he sees a phone, computer, or TV changer in reach and can not get his hands on it.
  • Bath time is becoming more fun. He has figured out that he can manuever to his stomach and play that way. Of course I love it because the little naked booty showing is the cutest thing ever!
  • Speaking of bath time we had our first poop in the bath water experience this past month. Hilarious and disguisting all at the same time.
  • As in earlier posts, he experienced the lake and boat for the first time and loved it! He will be a great lake baby.
  • We are going through a phase of fighting sleep even more than before. For the last week or so we have just been putting him down is his crib if he doesn't fall alseep with us rocking him after a few minutes. He screams for about 5-10 minutes but has been putting himself to sleep pretty well.
  • Like stated above, first time for ear infections this month along with his first time to take antiobiotics. Also, first time for a continous high fever. I feel blessed we made it to 1 week shy of 10 months, but it still stinks to see your baby hurting and not knowing what to do for them!
  • This past month has been a first with me getting him and I both dressed in the mornings by myself due to Josh's class schedule so I have tried to get him to watch TV for a few minutes so I can get a few things done without having to carry him around. He wants NOTHING to do with it. I consider this a good thing since we plan to not use TV as a form of entertainment, but a few minutes here and there could really help this momma out!
  • We feel like he has really changed in looks this past month. I still feel like he looks like his daddy but my family traits are really starting to come out in him. He looks a lot like my brother's little boy and his eyes are getting a lot more blue like my dad's.
  • While in his carseat he continuously tries to sit up by pushing his elbows towards the back so I think a big boy carseat is in our near future. We think he would happier and more comfortable. We plan to keep him rear facing for as long as possible.
Shaw Michael this month has had a lot of firsts, some bad and some good! You are a hilarious, outgoing little boy with a huge heart. We love seeing you grow up but really wish you would slow down a bit :). We love you sweet boy!

Hey mom...I'll get that clean for ya!

A few seconds after this shot he thought he would crawl off the chair...talking on the way down but luckily his dad and I grabbed a hold of each side right in time!

Slightly irritated with taking pictures.
