Oh my sweet Shaw, it just seems impossible that you made me a mommy FOUR years ago. You have taught your dad and I so much in these four short (long) years. We celebrated you last night with a family get together at the town's splash pad and tonight we will get together again to have a family dinner to celebrate Popsy and yours birthdays! You have been so excited to let everyone know that you are now four, I think you are catching on to this whole birthday thing! Here are the things that stand out most to me about you at this age!
You have an imagination like I have never seen in a child and I hope it never goes away. Unlike most little boys your age, you would rather not play with tech toys. Instead, you make a red wooden block into your "cell phone". You could play on it all day long, snapping pictures of your family members and telling me about every single game on it. You love little gadgets and explore all the options on making them into something no one else could ever imagine them to be. You have an imaginary friend that you have had for going on a year. (I kind of wish this would change because it does freak me out a little but you love him so we will let it be for now). Your "friend's" name is Jason and he goes everywhere you go. You have told me before that he is a little boy that looks just like you. You talk to him on a daily basis and when asked he is always in the same room as you. You have even gotten your brother on board with "Jason" and he now plays with him, too.
Your big interests right now are everything superhero. Your dad and I aren't even sure where this obsession started. You had never watched any of the shows on TV so we believe it was from all the talk at preschool about Captain American and Spider Man. BUT, now everything has to be superhero. It continuously reminds me of how I love being the mom to boys and once again, your imagination makes you go even further into the superhero world.
You had your first BIG growth spurt this last year. You gained close to 10 pounds and I wouldn't be surprised if you grew 2-3 inches. You are now comparable in size to all the other boys your age. You still have dirty blond hair that has slight curl to it when we lack in getting it cut and your eyes have turned a light shade of blue over the last few months. Every time I look at them, they seem more blue! I get comments all the time that you look more and more like me, but I still see your Daddy in you. Either way, you are one handsome boy!
I hope you always call your sister "pretty girl". Your voice and the mere presence of you in the room makes her little face light up. Your maturity over her well being and protection has truly amazed me. I know you will play one of the biggest roles in displaying to her her worth and show her the type of man she deserves. I am afraid between you, your brother, and Daddy, y'all may not let any boys come around until she is about 40 years old.
I pray you and your brother stay best friends. You are the first to tell him when he is wrong but also the first to kiss his booboos or protect him in all situations. He is known at church and at other places to only want you, to beg for you. You have shown him the love and protection of a big brother even though you two wrestle constantly and fight over toys. It wouldn't bother me one bit if y'all are still sharing a bed at fifteen; then, I can get heartwarming scenes of the two of you snuggling in the middle of the night during your teenage years. I pray the bond you and Sutton share will never waver.
You could sleep and mind a little better. Haha! You fight going to sleep and then come get in our bed at some point during the night five nights a week. Well, and minding. You are a pretty typical four year old. Sometimes it takes threats, counting down, and other disciplining to get you to obey. Other days, you are perfect. I am thankful for the easy and hard days. It reminds me of the love Christ has for me even when I am stubborn and the hard days prove to me that your daddy and I will continuously have work in front of us in the area of parenting until you become one yourself. You have finally caught on to manners. I can only hope that we have concreted ma'am, sir, please, and thank you into your young mind that you will always use them towards all superiors.
What makes me most proud is your obsession with God's word at your young age. You adore your story time every night. It is apparent through the fact that your daddy has now gone through the Story Book Bible three times and you can repeat the stories of the Bible almost word for word. You love to go to church and learn, something I hope never changes. My prayer for you is that you continue to seek God's word and grow closer to Him through a personal relationship with Christ.
We love you, Shaw Michael! You make us so proud.
