Half A Year

Yes, I know it has been a whole month since I have blogged. I have come to the conclusion that I am a horrible blogger. But, since our trips home are far and in between I am really going to make an effort to blog more so our family can keep up with us better. Also, my goal for this next week, along with trying to be the best mommy, wife, and OT possible, is to catch up on posts. On to tonight's post. Our little man is SIX MONTHS OLD! Yup, half of a year. It seems so impossible and honestly, I have been in denial that six months have already flown by. I was telling Josh just last night that before we know it another six months will pass by us and he will be a year old!!!! I adore every milestone and new adventure we have but I am continuously telling him to "stop growing so fast" and that it "makes mommy sad". Obviously he isn't listening to my nonsense ramblings because this hasn't happened yet and I am so sad that my baby is growing up before my eyes. I know I will never get this time back with him.

So what all has our Shaw Michael been up to? Here are some facts about him:
  • I weighed him tonight and he was 13 lb. 11 oz. WOWZERS! He has officially gained 10 lbs since birth (he got down to 3 lb 8 oz). Also, we went to the Dr. two weeks ago and he was up to 24.25 inches! We go next week for our 6 month check up and I can't wait to see what his stats are then!
  • We are in between size 2 and 3 diapers. Size 3 diapers?! Yup, this past weekend I started noticing they were fitting a little snug and then starting on Monday he started leaking out of them. To bad we have A TON of size two diapers left. Oh well, onto bigger and better things :)
  • Wearing size 3-6 month and 6 month clothing, along with some 0-3 month things we can squeeze into
  • Two weeks ago we were diagnosed with a minor case of scoliosis. He comes by this honestly considering my sister and myself both have curved spines. I noticed the curve, his daddy noticed the curve, and the PT I work with noticed the curve. We are waiting on an appointment for the Orthopedic so they can watch it more closely as he grows.
  • Starting this past Monday we have officially been out of the Nap Nanny and the swaddle at night. He is now in a sleep sack. Considering this is how he has slept all his life, he is doing fantastic. Last night, he woke up twice but quickly went back to sleep after he got his paci. Tonight, he went to sleep with no fussing and we are hoping he will be back to his 9-10 hours straight of sleeping. Still swaddling for naptime.
  • Going against my word, I started him on solids about 2 weeks ago. His weight slowed down a little and the poor guy watched our every move at the dinner table. So, for the past two weeks he has had organic, homemade avocado puree as a supplement after his 5 o'clock nursing, and tonight he had organic, homemade sweet potato puree for the first time. He has loved both! He made me feel much better about starting him early when he took the very first bite like a champ, and was swallowing whole bites within the first feeding. Besides this, his feeding/nursing is all still the same.
  • He has been staying with the sitter for about 3 weeks now and we love her! She just keeps Shaw and her little boy in her nice, clean home (yes, it makes a difference). It is wonderful and such a HUGE BLESSING!
  • His feet are in his mouth whenever possible. This is one of the oh.so.cute baby things I couldn't wait for him to do and it 100% melts my heart!
  • He is talking a lot more and making more noises. Right now he is into making loud short noises that sound like "ugh, ugh, ugh".
  • Laughing all the time. We laugh, he laughs. He laughs at us and we laugh at him :)
  • Loves peek-a-boo
  • Jumps his little heart out in his jumper
  • Still hates tummy time, but we are eager to see what the Orthopedic says about this. We are thinking it might actually be painful for him.
  • Still rolling tummy to back and has rolled back to tummy. But, once he found out it put him on his tummy he has refused to do it since.
  • Sitting up very good. He lasts about a minute.
  • When he can handle being on his tummy, he tries so hard to get his knees under him and has even gotten into sticking his booty up in the air and digging his toes into the ground
  • Still going through the bratty stage of not ever wanting to be put down or left alone. We are working on this with some tough love parenting :)
  • Still loves his play mat and sitting in his bumbo
  • Loves being read to. Touches each page and you can tell he is just in awe of all the colors
  • Very observant. If he is in the bumbo or jumper, he will completely turn his whole body to look at a noise or try to find you.
  • Getting really good at cause and affect toys. He will push big buttons in order to get toys to sing or flash lights.
  • More playful during bathtime. He loves splashing and playing in the water. He has a toy whale that water comes out of the spout that he likes to turn on and off.
  • Even strangers are starting to say "well, you look just like your daddy". HA! It is so true. They are twins!
  • Completely fine in the carseat during the day. Completely NOT fine in the carseat at night. Not sure what it is, but he hates riding in the car when it is dark outside.
  • Getting smarter, funnier, cuter, and more perfect by the day :)
Shaw Michael mommy and daddy adore you! We love you so much!

My, how he has changed!
