Back Tracking Tuesday: The Gender Reveal Party

I guess since this was our first child I really wanted to do everything just right...from how we announced we were pregnant to grandparents, to the weekly belly picture, to revealing the gender of our first born I knew I wanted it all to be "perfect". Or maybe its my OCD tendencies that Josh swears I need medicine for...sometimes I think I do too :) but I thought of ideas on how I wanted everything to be and knew I wanted these ideas to become traditions I started with my first pregnancy. So, for several weeks I planned our gender reveal party. We contemplated on how it would be and how many people we would invite. After we decided to make it a cook-out we quickly decided that immediate family only would be invited since we didn't want to break the bank. But, to fill you in a bit my immediate family is quite LARGE, so we knew we would still have a house full. After researching online and looking at several different ideas I decided I wanted to reveal the gender through cupcakes. So, a couple of weeks prior to our big 19 week ultrasound I called a local bakery and told them my plan. They LOVED it and put us down on the schedule for that day. They informed me that I had to call right after my ultrasound so they could have the cupcakes ready in time for the party. The lady at the bakery was too funny when I made the call after the ultrasound, she was SO excited when I told her we were having a boy and she said they had been waiting for me to call me so they could dye the icing pink or blue :). After the ultrasound, I had to go back to my clinical rotation so my fellow OTs were the ONLY ones that knew the gender before the party (to my knowledge until after the party when I discovered that my older brother got it out of my husband. Yes, Stacey he bet boy because he KNEW). My family and friends kept texting me, some even asking questions to try to trick me into saying 'he' or 'she' but I kept them guessing and sent them all pictures back of our precious, healthy baby's face in 3-D. After my clinical was over, I rushed to pick up the cupcakes that had white frosting on top and centers filled with blue icing. They were perfect. Once again my OCD tendencies had me decorate the day before because I knew I would be excited, anxious, and short on time once I got home. So, the only thing I had to do was put the food out and still get over the shock that we were having a BOY. I had a 14 week ultrasound and the tech told me he was about 90% sure we were having a girl, so when the infamous boy parts were seen in all their glory I about fell off the table and didn't believe what I was seeing! Josh, on the other hand, had the biggest smile on his face and said "I knew it!". Once everyone got over to our house we ate, what we all do best. We had a fish fry/cook out and it was yummy! The weather was perfect so we all sat outside on the deck and enjoyed ourselves. Once my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew got home in Ohio and we got them on Skype it was time for the big reveal. We passed the cupcakes out and threatened everyone with their lives to wait until everyone had one. Then I told them all to dig in and it took about .5 seconds for cheering and screaming to take place! Josh was videoing everyone while I took pictures and the video is entertaining to say the least. Even though most people at the party had on blue, I think mostly everyone was surprised. After everyone got over the surprise, both grandma's bought our Shaw Michael gifts, so we opened them and talked about how much fun having a boy was going to be. The party was so perfect and I am so glad we got to share such a huge blessing and time with our family in such a fun way.

Back Tracking Tuesday: The Belly

Since there is so much I had planned to share before Shaw decided to make an early appearance, I figured I could make one day a week dedicated to "back tracking". So, the next few Tuesdays are going to be "Back Tracking Tuesday" and I will post something about my pregnancy. I plan to make posts about our gender reveal party, showers, and his nursery.
Before I got pregnant I knew I wanted to document how big my belly got. So, after we found out we were pregnant we started taking the weekly belly picture! Even though I made it to 34.5 weeks, the night we went to the hospital was the night I was planning on taking my 34 week picture. So, we just have the belly until 33 weeks. Also, I couldnt figure out how to get Smilebox to let me set the number of pictures I needed, but then I counted the extra spaces it would have been perfect for belly pictures up to 40 weeks. It made me realize how many more pictures I would have taken and how much bigger my belly would have gotten. Enjoy :)
